Waterford golfer Seamus Power has risen to 89th in the latest world golf rankings.

The Touraneena man is also up to 36th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Having secured 8 top 20 finishes from his last twelve appearances on the PGA Tour, the 34-year-old is hoping to continue his good form in this week's Houston Open.

At the end of 2020, Power was 429th in the world rankings, but his maiden win at the Barbasol Championship helped secure his tour card for the next two years, while he also propelled himself into the top 70 of the FedEx Cup.

Shane Lowry is currently 42nd in the world rankings, while Rory McIlroy is 8th as Spain's Jon Rahm holds top spot.

Speaking to the Irish Times, Power says his game is in a good spot going into this week's action.

"“The game is in a good spot. It’s nice to have two decent finishes in a row, it’s encouraging."

Having never yet played in a major, the Waterford native is hoping to keep up his meteoric rise and find himself in the top 50 - which would warrant an appearance at the Masters in Augusta.

Power's final tournament of the year will be at next week's RSM Classic.

He is among the PGA Tour's fifteen featured golfers for this week's action at Houston.

"His surge continued at Mayakoba where he recorded a consistent T11. It's his eighth top 20 in his last twelve starts and it's proof that he can hang in deeper fields. This is a Memorial Park debut for Seamus Power."
