Sam Bennett is back in the green jersey after claiming a first stage victory on the Tour de France.

The Carrick-on-Suir rider won yesterday’s 10th stage and now holds a 21 point lead over Peter Sagan in the race for the green jersey.

He is just the sixth Irish rider to claim a Tour de France stage after Shay Elliott, Sean Kelly, Stephen Roche, Martin Early, and Dan Martin.

After he crossed the line Sam Bennett didn’t actually believe he had won.

Sam Bennett was emotional when he was interviewed afterwards

Today’s 11th stage takes the peloton on a 167 kilometre trek to Poitiers.

It’s the same town where Waterford’s Sean Kelly won his first Tour stage in 1978.

Primoz Roglic wears the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
