Waterford FC 0 St Patrick’s Athletic 2
Waterford FC’s winning run came to end at the RSC as St Patrick’s Athletic took all three points in an entertaining SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash.
Waterford started brightly forcing a couple of early opportunities, the best of which saw Finlay Armstrong send a lovely ball into the area from the left. However, neither Conan Noonan nor Padraig Amond could get the vital touch on it and it was scrambled away.
And despite the pressure, the home side found themselves behind on 18 minutes when Mason Melia was sent through by Kian Leavy and he slotted the ball past Stephen McMullen with the Blues’ defence looking for an offside flag that never materialised.
There were shouts for a penalty after Jordan Rossiter’s wonderful ball split the defence for Tommy Lonergan and as he got into the penalty area he tussled with Tom Grivosti and ended on the deck but referee Daniel Murphy waved the penalty claims away.
St Pat’s managed the game very well in the second half forcing six corners, the last of which produced their second goal when Brandon Kavanagh’s excellent delivery was headed home by substitute Conor Carty.
