Déise hurler Conor Prunty scored 2-1 from play as Abbeyside Ballinacourty defeated Kilrossanty 2-12 to 1-7 at Fraher Field in round one of the county senior football championship on Sunday afternoon.
Prunty started at full forward and raised a green flag in either half for Benji Whelan's side. Sean Whelan Barrett chipped in with three points. Corey Kennedy found the net for Kilrossanty after 10 seconds. The green and gold finished with fourteen men as Stephen Prendergast was dismissed on two yellow cards.
Defending champions Rathgormack hammered Brickey Rangers by 4-15 to 0-4. Kenny Hassett's men led by 19 points at the break (4-8 to 0-1). Waterford attacker Stephen Curry shot 2-1 from play. He got two early goals before James Power and Conor Murray added further green flags.
Brickeys only managed two points from play over the hour via Cormac O'Grady and Mark Cummins. O'Grady got the scoreboard moving for the black and amber in the 20th minute.
Earlier in the day, Clashmore/Kinsalebeg got the better of senior newcomers Roanmore 1-8 to 0-4 at the Dungarvan GAA Grounds. Paul O'Connor shot 1-4 for the winners including a volleyed goal on 42 minutes. Former Waterford hurler Brian O'Halloran hit three points while Ronan Fitzgerald and Kyle Moloney also raised white flags. Sam Pender put over Roanmore's first point in senior football.
