Waterford hurling captain Conor Prunty is the May winner of the WLR/Granville Hotel GAA Award.
The Abbeyside defender has picked up his first monthly award after a man of the match display against All Ireland champions Limerick at Walsh Park. "It's nice to get one. It's nice for the family and for the club. It puts them on the map and it shows all the hard work and dedication they put in with me. The patience from my parents as well, I have to mention them."
The skipper man-marked All Star forward Aaron Gillane and made two goal saving blocks as the Déise beat the Shannonsiders for the first time in five years. “Psychologically, it was a big win. With Limerick going down to fourteen, if we came out of Walsh Park without a win, it wouldn’t have been great. It was just nice to get a win. It was one of the games we targeted in the league. It was important to get a win in Walsh Park; it’s something that we’ve put a stamp on since Liam came in that Walsh Park is going to be a hard place to play in. We’ve shown that throughout the last two league campaigns.”
Prunty led his side out in the All Ireland final loss to Limerick at Croke Park last December and finished 2020 with an All Star nomination. He collected an All Ireland under 21 medal in 2016 and made his championship debut against Clare in 2019.
