Running from 10 am to 1 pm, the event will bring together five local schools that recently completed the Primary Schools Programme run by Table Tennis Ireland. The festival is organised in partnership with Table Tennis Ireland and Waterford TT Stars Club.
The participating schools are Holy Cross NS, Newtown NS, Our Lady of Mercy NS, St Saviour’s NS, and Philip Baraun NS in Tramore.
Over the past number of months, students in each school completed four coaching sessions. Conn Huggins, Munster Development Officer with Table Tennis Ireland, delivered the programme.
During his visits, Conn introduced students to table tennis and guided them through the basic skills of the game. Sessions focused on participation, skill development and enjoyment.
Each school also received table tennis equipment packs and supporting resources. This allows teachers to continue the sport in their schools. Teachers also took part in the coaching sessions and will receive their programme certification during Friday’s festival.
Organisers are also working with Daniel Kovac, owner of Waterford TT Stars Club, to help create a pathway for students who want to continue playing table tennis.
Through his club, Daniel runs open table tennis sessions along with structured coaching for people of all ages, levels, and abilities.
Friday’s festival will give students the chance to play matches, meet players from other schools and enjoy a day of table tennis after completing the programme. Organisers hope the event will inspire many of the children to stay involved in the sport in the years ahead.
