"Kind of a sloppy one to start the year off to be honest"
Those are the words of Seamus Power following his opening round of golf in 2022.
The Torraneena man carded a -5 68 in Hawaii on Thursday to move into a share of 17th at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
The majority of the world's best golfers are in attendance at the Plantation Course with 8 of the top 10 shaking off the Christmas cobwebs.
Power said he had a nice Christmas break and is likely paying for the time away from the fairways now. He says, "a lot of mistakes and a lot of poor shots, but I was able to make a couple of putts to hang in there."
A short trip home to Waterford meant he had the chance to put the clubs away for a bit. However, he said last night, "you're practicing [during the break] but it's never quite the same as it will be in tournament play."
He's hoping for some improvement tonight when he heads to the first tee at 9.20 pm Irish time in the company of Ryan Brehm, "Overall, hopefully, I didn't shoot myself out of it so you know - ups and downs, and still a lot to work on."
