Maryland is the destination this weekend for the world's top golfers.

The Wells Fargo Championship will see a field in excess of 150 take to TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm where a purse of nine million dollars has been tucked away for the entrants.

Seamus Power returns to action after he and Graeme McDowell missed the cut at the Zurich Classic last weekend.

The world's 40th ranked player from Touraneena will be underway this afternoon from 12.56 Irish time in the company of KJ Lee and Matt Jones where the weather is set to be warm and dry for the four days of action.

Seamus boasts two top-five finishes so far this season (T3 Sony open, T5 WGC Match Play) while he claimed a top ten finish at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The course in question was once a stalwart of the PGA Tour, featuring nearly every year for almost three decades, but has gone missing from the tour for the past three years.

While a par five normally makes a player's ears perk up, TPC Potomac only offers two, and both are tricky. The second hole is set to play at about 640 yards this weekend but danger abounds at the green. A deep-sloping bunker on the left may well turn potentially birdies into lucky par saves.

The tenth hole will need every bit of 600 yards to hit the target, but as it turns to the left players will need to strike down the right to leave themselves with any shot at the pin. The final approach shot is littered with hazards as it's a narrow landing area with bushes and thick rough surrounding the putting surface.

What does all this mean for Seamus? Well, the West Waterford man currently sits fourth on the tour for greens hit in regulation (643 greens hit in 900 holes) and he's fifth for par-five scoring averages. While his putting left him down in Augusta, the Waterford man will be hoping for a return to the norm in the coming days to put himself in contention.

Having played 17 events in 2022, Seamus is after pulling in $2,185,328 and the bookies have him at 28/1 for the win this weekend. Fellow Irish man Rory McIlroy is the favorite at 15/2 while neither Graeme McDowell nor Shane Lowry feature in Maryland.
