WLR Sport understands that a potential takeover of Waterford FC could be on the cards.

Reporting indicates that former Blues boss Marc Bircham is part of a consortium hoping to purchase the club from owner Richard Forrest.

Earlier this summer a story emerged that the club had been valued at a sale price of €1.3 million.

Forrest denied that he intended to sell the club, saying the sale prospectus was merely a "Board decision to illicit a commercial assessment of the club's market value and current assessment of market interest."

R&S Holdings, owned by Forrest bought the club from Lee Power in 2021 having owned the RSC outfit for five years.

Since the purchase made by Forrest the club have been relegated to the first division where they currently occupy third spot behind Galway and Cork.

Bircham who managed the side in 2021 - a campaign that ended in relegation - departed following a public dispute with the owner.

Asked for comment, the club have not yet responded.
