Waterford 2 Cobh Ramblers 1 (AET)

Waterford captain Giles Phillips headed the Blues into the promotion final against Cork City when they defeated Cobh Ramblers 2 - 1 after extratime in Turners Cross.

Waterford took the lead just minutes into the second half when Barry Baggley won possession midway inside his own half and spotted the run of Ronan Coughlan. He delivered a wonderful ball to the stirker who raced into the area before firing under Lee Steacy.

Blues keeper Sam Sargeant had to dive full length to deny James O Oleary three minutes later but the Blues held firm until two minutes from time when the Waterford defence failed to clear the ball and Matt McKevitt managed an great overhead kick to send the game to extratime.

Sargeant saved the blues with a point blank save from Alex Byrne on 100 minutes and they went back in front a minute later when Giles Phillips rose to meet a Shane Griffin corner and he powered it to the back of the net.
