Peter Hogan and Mikey Mahony have been announced as the January Joint winners of the Waterford Sports Awards, in association with WLR and the Granville Hotel, following a series of standout performances for Ballygunner Hurling Club on the national stage as well as their inspirational leadership of Ballygunner to All-Ireland glory in January 2026, capping a remarkable club campaign.
Joint Captains Lead Historic Success
Serving as joint captains, Hogan and Mahony played central roles as Ballygunner secured their second AIB All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship title at Croke Park. Mahony delivered one of the defining moments of the final, striking a crucial goal that shifted momentum firmly in Ballygunner’s favour and gave the Waterford champions a platform they would not relinquish. Hogan, a constant attacking threat throughout the campaign, contributed vital scores and brought composure and experience to the biggest stage, driving standards on and off the field with his work off the ball, always tracking back for the team.Cementing a Lasting Legacy
