Former Déise boss Michael Ryan says that Waterford will want to turn the tables on Limerick in Saturday's Munster championship clash at the Gaelic Grounds.
Waterford have lost a Munster final, an All Ireland final and an All Ireland semi final to the Shannonsiders in Liam Cahill's time in charge.
"People are saying this is a free shot, I don't agree. If we were to lose this game and Cork were to beat Clare, Cork come to Walsh Park for our third game and they would be on two points each if we were to lose to Limerick and Cork might have a bit of momentum. What's very important on Saturday evening is the performance. We need to go up there, hurl really well and show what we're capable of. The more times somebody beats you, the harder it is to turn it around. The performance is important. It would be great to win the game. It remains to be seen what team will be picked but I would imagine Waterford will go up with the intention of winning the game."
He thinks that Jamie Barron should be held in reserve again despite his second half showing against Tipperary. "I want to be very clear, I'm in no way telling Liam Cahill what to do. I think that management team are top notch. If it was my call, I probably wouldn't start him. That was his first game of hurling since the first week of October, that's about six months ago. I wouldn't start him. If Liam Cahill decides to start him, he knows more about it than I do, he's watching him in training. If it was my call, I wouldn't start him."
