Pauric Mahony Named December Winner of Waterford Sports Awards
Pauric Mahony has been announced as the December winner of the Waterford Sports Awards, in association with WLR and the Granville Hotel, following a series of standout performances for Ballygunner Hurling Club on the national stage.
Key Performances Power Ballygunner’s Historic Run
Mahony played a pivotal role as Ballygunner reached the AIB All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship Final for just the second time in the club’s history.
The Waterford star delivered an outstanding scoring display in the semi-final victory over Leinster champions St. Martin’s, contributing 0-7 as the Gunners ran out convincing 0-19 to 0-10 winners.
His influence was also felt earlier in the campaign when he scored 0-5 in the Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship final, helping Ballygunner secure a crucial win against Éire Óg Inis and book their place on the national stage.
All-Ireland Final Preparations Underway
Preparations are now intensifying as Pauric Mahony and his Ballygunner teammates look ahead to the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship Final, where they will face Loughrea of Galway in the weeks ahead.
The Waterford champions will be aiming to add to their sole All-Ireland title, which they famously captured in 2022, and Mahony’s form will be central to their hopes of lifting the trophy once again.
Historic Achievement in Waterford Sports Awards
Mahony’s December accolade also sees him make Waterford Sports Awards history, as he becomes the first-ever repeat winner of the monthly award. He previously claimed the honour in September 2024, underlining his consistent excellence at the highest level of club hurling.
Gala Night Set for January
The 2025 Waterford Sports Awards will culminate in a gala banquet at the Granville Hotel on Saturday, January 17th, where the overall Waterford Sports Star of the Year will be revealed.
On the night, attendees will also witness the announcement of the second inductee into the Waterford Sporting Hall of Fame, celebrating individuals who have made a lasting impact on sport in the county.
