Paul Shankey has stood down from his role as Waterford senior football manager.

The Meath native took over from Ephie Fitzgerald and guided Waterford to their first Munster Championship win since 2010 when they defeated Tipperary in the Munster Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final last April.

A statement from the Waterford County Board reads:

“Waterford GAA wish to confirm that Paul Shankey has informed the Waterford County Board that he has decided not to take up the option of a third year as Manager of the Waterford Senior Football team.

Over the past two seasons, Paul has brought professionalism and dedication to the role, helping to guide the team through a period of development and transition.

Chairperson of Waterford GAA, Neil Moore, commented: “We extend our sincere thanks to Paul for his commitment and service to Waterford football. His contribution over the past two years has been valued, and we wish him every success in the future.”

The process to appoint a new Senior Football Team Management will now begin. Waterford GAA will not be making any further comment at this time.
