Waterford FC set to announce the signing of Padraig Amond

Waterford FC are set to announce the signing of veteran striker Padraig Amond, according to John Fallon of the Irish Examiner.

The Carlow man has had an excellent career in England, and has scored 216 goals in his career to date.

The 35-year-old is set to sign from Woking, having previously lined out for Newport County - for whom he scored famous FA Cup goals against Manchester City, Tottenham and Leicester.

Amond has also been capped four times for Ireland at underage level, and returns to the League of Ireland for the first time since 2010.

A statement from Woking reads:

"Woking Football Club can confirm that Padraig Amond has asked to be released from his contract and the Club will grant his request, subject to his transfer to a League of Ireland Premier Division club.

The forward, 35, will be joining a club in the League of Ireland Premier Division, with an announcement expected later in the week.

Amond has asked the Club for his release over the past year so that he may return home to Ireland to play out his career closer to his young family. In the best interest of the Club, the player and his family, the Club will grant his request.
