Waterford’s Owen Oseni had a dream full debut for Plymouth Argyle this evening as he scored twice in the second half to send them through to the next round of the EFL Cup.
Plymouth, facing Championship side Queens Park Rangers – found themselves 2-0 down at half time following a nightmare opening period.
Daniel Bennie gave the visitors the lead on 21 minutes before Jamie Paterson missed the opportunity to level proceedings from the penalty spot 5 minutes later – and the R’s duly punished Argyle as Rayan Kolli doubled the advantage right before the half-time break.
Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu got the comeback up and running on 48 minutes, before Oseni, making his full debut for the club having recently joined from St. Mirren – slotted home when teed up by Aymen Benarous to make it 2-2 just nine minutes into the second half.
There was still time to complete the most remarkable comeback, Oseni on hand to double his tally and send Argyle through to the next round – firing home on 79 minutes to secure a memorable 3-2 win.
The victory is former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley’s first in charge of the club.
Plymouth now go into the hat for Round 2 where Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Leeds or Everton could be their opponents.
