The Waterford Under 20 footballers start their Munster championship campaign against Clare in Doonbeg on Saturday.
The Déise are guaranteed four provincial games. Paul Power’s side will take on Clare (away), Limerick (home) and Tipperary (away) over the next three Saturdays. The Phase 1 winner will advance to play Kerry while the runner-up will take on Cork. The teams that finish third and fourth will face off in the Munster B final on April 1.
“Our goal is to get into that top two and get ourselves up with the Corks and the Kerrys and see where we’re at,” manager Paul Power told WLR Sport. “There’s no hiding it, that’s our goal. Get into that top two and get up to the next level.”
The Rathgormack man wants to see his team leave everything on the field this weekend. “Their work rate is top notch, they won’t be found wanting for that. They don’t throw in the towel. We’ve spoken about that over the last few of weeks. No matter what way the score is going in a game, the number one thing is we do not throw in the towel at any stage.”
Throw in is at 2 o’clock on Saturday.
Paul Power as well as joint captains Adam Murray and Michael McMaugh featured on Friday’s Lár Na Páirce.
