Lismore's James O'Connor has been recommended as the new Waterford minor hurling manager.
His name will be brought before club delegates for ratification at the next county board meeting later this month.
The former Déise defender will be joined on the sideline by Gavin O'Brien of Roanmore and Seamus Hannon from Ballyduff Upper. He was selected by the committee of chairman Sean Michael O'Regan, county secretary Pat Flynn, CEO of Nemeton TV Irial Mac Murchú and former Déise attacker Brian O'Halloran.
Michael Murphy from Fenor is set to take charge of the Waterford minor footballers for 2023. He will be assisted by Mark Nugent (Dunhill), Dale Long (The Nire), Des Kennedy (Gaultier) and Austin Dunne (De La Salle). O'Regan, Flynn, Mac Murchú and Tony Corcoran from St Saviours sat on the football selection committee.
James O'Connor captained the Waterford Under 21s to Munster success in 1994. As a manager, 'Joxer' recently led Shamrocks Ballyhale to two Kilkenny titles and a Leinster championship. A late, late goal from Ballygunner substitute Harry Ruddle denied them All Ireland glory at Croke Park back in February. O'Connor stepped down after that game and took over Midleton this season.
He also guided Carrigtwohill to the 2011 Cork county title and led East Cork side Fr O’Neills to the 2020 All Ireland intermediate final. He was in charge of Dungarvan for three seasons.
