Roanmore have been crowned Premier Intermediate Football Champions after a 3-8 to 1-5 win over Rathgormack at Walsh Park.
Former Republic of Ireland international Eddie Nolan scored 1-4 for the Sky Blues (1-2 from play) while substitutes Shane Nolan and Shane Mackey also raised green flags. Dean Reidy kicked a point in each half. This is Roanmore's third county football title in four years.
Eddie Nolan volleyed to the net on three minutes after Emmet O'Toole's shot came back off the post. The Sky Blues were guilty of six first half wides however and Rathgormack clawed their way back into the game. Points from Daniel Crotty, Sean Lacey, Steven Kirwan and Paul Drohan levelled up matters by the break (1-1 to 0-4).
It was all Roanmore in the second half. Four Nolan points (two frees off the ground and two from play) and one from Dean Reidy put them out of sight. Eddie Nolan was replaced by brother Shane on 49 minutes. The number seventeen netted with his first touch after Dean Reidy picked him out with a cross along the ground.
Jamie Kirwan struck an injury time goal for Rathgormack. Vinny Murray's side had two more chances but Roanmore goalkeeper Josh Sheridan punched the ball away. Substitute Shane Mackey found the top corner of the net six minutes into injury time to seal victory as Dean Reidy raised the new Paddy Fitzgerald Cup.
