Dungarvan jockey Niall Houlihan recorded an 87/1 treble at Plumpton this afternoon.
Houlihan’s winning streak started with a 20-length romp in the opening novice hurdle as he guided the Gary and Josh Moore trained Old Cowboy to a facile victory at odds of 4/1.
The day got much better for Houlihan just 90 minutes later aboard the Andy Irvine-trained La Dolce Dolly (7/1) but he was made to work a lot harder for that particular success – scoring with three quarters of a length in hand in a 3-mile handicap hurdle.
The Dungarvan rider then brought up his treble in the next, with another 21-length romp – this time aboard the Moore-trained Havaila who boldly justified 6/5 market favouritism.
That’s now 4 winners from his last 9 rides for Houlihan – who’s operating at a strike rate of 44% in the last four days.
His brother Sean will ride at the Cheltenham Festival tomorrow, as he takes the reins on the Shiela Lewis-trained Straw Fan Jack in the Ultima Handicap Chase.
