New Republic of Ireland manager in Waterford for talks with John O'Shea

New Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimmson has travelled to Waterford for talks with John O’Shea.

Hallgrimsson wants to appoint the former Ireland skipper as his assistant.

O’Shea has served as interim manager during the last two international windows.

He was head coach for friendlies this year against Belgium, Switzerland, Hungary and Portugal.

Hallgrimsson's appointment was confirmed last week after a 230-day search.

The Icelander’s contract runs until the 2026 World Cup but reports suggest the 57-year-old is open to O’Shea being part of the FAI’s succession plan.
