Waterford AC’s Barry Keane has set a new Irish indoor 5,000m record at the Boston University Season Opener Meet in the early hours of this morning.

Keane produced the fastest 5,000m of his life to clock a stunning 13:25:96. The performance was made all the more impressive with Keane coming into the race off his recent NCAA cross country division 1 final appearance.

The time goes to top of the Irish all-time list, taking over from Alistair Cragg’s 13:28.93 record which had stood since March 2003.

Meanwhile in Valencia this morning, Fionnuala McCormack produced a brilliant run at the Valencia Marathon to clock 2:23:58 for a fifth-place finish, taking three minutes off her own personal best. The time leaves McCormack 2nd on the Irish all-time list behind Catherina McKiernan's 2:22:23.
