The Waterford U16 schoolgirl league team will be waking up this morning as National Shield Winners.

That’s after they beat Longford 5-3 in the decider yesterday.

Trailing 3-1 at halftime, it was a phenomenal comeback from the Waterford outfit with Zara Corcoran scoring 4 goals and Breanne Hutchinson adding the other.

The side has already won the Munster plate this season and yesterday’s result marks the first national inter-league title since 2012.

It’s also the first time a squad has won both the Munster and National titles in the same season.
