Gailltir captain Aine Lyng says that everyone in the club is pulling together on the winter nights as the blue and navy prepare to defend their Munster intermediate camogie title against Toomevara on Saturday.
"Everybody has a role, you don't need to have a jersey. We've got great people, family members, making soup for us over the last few weeks. The girls have been out training on the wet and rainy nights and you have the likes of Ann Corcoran's mam and dad Brendan and Richard and Aoife Fitzgerald's mum Ann Marie have soup for us!"
The Lyng clan are playing their part both on and off the pitch. "Club is family. I have my family directly involved. My dad is involved in coaching the team, my brother does the stats and my mother is making the brown bread! It's a family affair."
The skipper works in Dublin at present with the National Cancer Control Programme. "My own role is in cancer prevention and early detection. What we're trying to do is engage the Irish population to participate in behaviours that reduce their cancer risk. The obvious ones are smoking and alcohol. A big part of it is physical activity and that's where my passion lies, I'm an exercise physiologist. There's a huge dropout rate in sport in teenage girls so what I'm trying to do is encourage participation and maintain participation."
