The Munster Hurling League competition has been abandoned for 2024, despite Waterford having qualified for the final of the tournament thanks to victories against Kerry and Tipperary.
The winners of the clash of Cork and Limerick were scheduled to face Waterford in the decider, but that game has been postponed three times on account of adverse weather conditions.
With the National Leagues on the horizon, a decision has been taken to abandon the tournament given that there is no viable gap in the schedule in which the two remaining games can take place.
A statement from the Munster Council reads:
"After discussions with the three counties involved, it has not been possible to find suitable dates this week to play the two remaining games in the Co-Op Superstores Munster Hurling League. Therefore, the Munster GAA CCC has decided that the 2024 competition will not be completed.”
Waterford will begin their National League campaign against Offaly on February 4th.
