Mikel Arteta said the word “bottlers” does not exist in his vocabulary as he rejected claims Arsenal are throwing away another Premier League title race.

Arsenal led 2-0 at Wolves on Wednesday but settled for a 2-2 draw. The result handed momentum to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s side will win the title if they claim victory in their remaining 12 matches. That run includes a decisive clash with Arsenal at the Etihad in April.

Despite the slip, the Gunners remain five points clear at the top. However, they have played one game more than City.

Sunday brings a north London derby at Tottenham. Memories of three straight runners-up finishes still linger. Fresh criticism followed the draw at Molineux.

Responding to the “bottlers” tag, Arteta said: “That’s individual opinion and you have to respect it.

“We dropped two points and we accept that. It’s part of our job.

“But I don’t see it like that. Nobody intends for that to happen. I wouldn’t use that word.”

The Gunners have reached next month’s Carabao Cup final. They also advanced to the Champions League knockout stage after winning all eight group games.

An FA Cup fifth-round tie at Mansfield awaits in March. Arsenal are favourites to progress.

League form has dipped, with only two wins in seven matches. That run has increased scrutiny.

“When we fall below our standards, I take responsibility,” Arteta said. “I never point at a player.

“In the second half against Wolves we were below our level. That can happen with this schedule. If anyone is responsible, it’s me.

“We must live in the present. The present is positive.

“We are where we want to be in every competition. I stay calm and focus on what the players need.

“I’ve seen a tremendous reaction. That doesn’t surprise me.

“Now it’s about the next chapter and writing our own story.”

Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz missed the Wolves match through injury. Both have a chance of returning against Spurs.

“We’ll assess them tomorrow,” Arteta said. “There’s a strong possibility they’ll be available.”
