Tributes have been paid to two-time FAI Cup winner and former Waterford FC man Mark Meagan, who has died at the age of 66.

Meagan, the son of former Republic of Ireland manager Mick, was part of the Blues' side that won the FAI Cup in 1980.

“Waterford FC are saddened to hear of the passing of our former player Mark Meagan, a member of our 1980 FAI Cup winning side. Lining out for the Blues across two spells in his career, he will be sadly missed by all at Waterford FC. May Mark rest in peace,” the Blues said in a social media post today.

Meagan began his career at Shamrock Rovers - with whom he won the FAI Cup in 1978.

He joined Waterford FC where he won the FAI Cup for a second time, before moving on to Athlone Town, with whom he captured a league title in 1982/83.

Meagan went on to have another spell at Waterford, as well as playing for St. Patrick's Athletic and Kilkenny.

His former clubs are set to mark his passing with a moment's applause at this week's League of Ireland fixtures.
