Diego Maradona is recovering after undergoing successful brain surgery.

The 1986 World Cup winner went under the knife in the small hours of this morning Irish time.

A blood clot on the brain was detected last night, with emergency surgery required.

South American football expert Tim Vickery says there’s cautious optimism he’ll make a full recovery.

He said: “He may be at home – certainly within a week.

“There’s even talk that he could be back at work – he’s currently a coach of Gimnasia in the Argentine First Division in around a month.”

“However it all depend’s how Maradona’s body copes with the surgery.”
