Lismore and Clonea are both celebrating victory on the opening weekend of the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship.

Following wins for Mount Sion and Dungarvan at Walsh Park earlier, Lismore and Clonea both ensured their campaigns got off to the perfect start.

Lismore saw off Fourmilewater in Cappoquin, a goal from Ben O’Sullivan just before half-time proving crucial as they saw off Fourmilewater by 1-19 to 0-21 – while Jack Prendergast was also at his brilliant best.

Clonea took on a Brickey Rangers side who were facing into senior action for the first time in 60 years. James Power was electric on the evening – hitting 1-4 from play – and when he struck for an early goal, Clonea would never relinquish their advantage.

Cormac O’Grady hit the Brickeys first goal at senior level for many a year, but it proved in vein as did 0-9 from Tom O’Connell as Clonea ran out 1-22 to 1-19 victors – three superb points from Kieran Power proved worth the admission fee alone.
