Lisa O'Rourke missed out on a medal at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool on Tuesday evening. The former IBA World Champion lost by a 3-2 split decision to Australia's Lekeisha Pergoliti in the quarter-final. O'Rourke contested a highly physical and high-tempo bout. Judges scored the bout 28:29, 29:28, 27:30, 29:28, 29:28 Earlier on Tuesday, Patsy Joyce booked his place in the quarter-finals of the 55kg division. He got past Bulgaria's Javier Ibanez Diaz, with the Paris bronze medalist forced to retire in the second round of their last-16 bout. Joyce had won the first round 4-1 and forced a standing count of his opponent in the second. A point was also deducted. The contest was ended by injury in the second round, and a 3-2 decision was given to Joyce. Sligo man Dean Clancy also lost a last-16 bout on Tuesday night, ending his World Boxing Championship campaign. He fought against 65kg Paris Olympic bronze medalist Lasha Guruli, who won 5-0. Judges scored the bout: 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 30:27. Brian Kennedy of Offaly is set to compete in his 85kg last-16 contest at around 10pm, taking on Danylo Zhasan of Ukraine.
