Leopardstown has become the second festival to name a race in memory of young Waterford jockey, Jack de Bromhead.

Yesterday WLR reported that the Mares' Novices Hurdle for 2023 is to be renamed in honour of the 13-year-old, who passed away after a tragic accident in September.

It's now been revealed that the Leopardstown Christmas Hurdle will also be called after him.

His father, Henry de Bromhead, told Newstalk this morning that both gestures really mean a lot to his family.

"Very much so," he said, "It really is kind."

“The support we have gotten from everybody is just unbelievable and this is a good opportunity to thank everyone.

“We’re still opening cards and letters from people.

“Obviously, this is everyone’s worst nightmare but we feel incredibly fortunate because these really kind gestures are great support for us and they offer something for us to look forward to.”
