Waterford FC 1 - 2 Longford

Waterford dominated the game from the start and their first chance came on thirteen minutes when Niall O Keeffe released Phoenix Patterson down the left. He got to the end line before firing a low cross that was met by Wassim Aouachria but Dylan Barnett managed to get a block on it.

There was nothing Longford could do five minutes later when Waterford took the lead. Tunmise Sobowale pounced on a poor clearance from Barnet before crossing for the in-running Shane Griffin whose side-footed effort sailed past Luke Dennison.

Waterford were reduced to ten men a minute before the break when Aouachria was red carded for allegedly striking Aaron Robinson though video replays showed little if any contact.

The second half saw Waterford absorb a lot of pressure but they should have had a second when Patterson crashed a 30 yeard free kick off the upright with Dennison well beaten.

Longford finally got the equaliser six minutes from time when Jordan Ademayo got in the way of a Cian Corbally long-range shot and the Longford substitute had time to pick his spot and fire into the bottom corner.

The visitors would go on to secure all three points with the final touch of the game when Sam Verdon got on the end of a Barnett corner to head home.
