The Waterford ladies' footballers have beaten Cork for the first time in seven years.
The Deise had nine points to spare in an impressive performance at Pairc Ui Rinn yesterday, collecting their first points of the Division 1 National League campaign.
2-12 to 1-6 was the score in favour of Pat Sullivan's side, with the goals coming from Aine O'Neill and Clare Walsh.
Sullivan is looking forward to the three games left in the group against Dublin, Galway and Mayo - and believes his squad were at their very best against their Munster rivals.
"I'm really happy with the performance. It was a really good team performance. We dominated the game from start to finish and we set the tempo early in the game and had a really good first half, 1-9 to a point at half-time", said Sullivan.
"I think overall, the finishing scoreline probably doesn't even reflect some of the performance. We probably had a few more chances we should have taken as well, so we've got three things to work on over the next two weeks before Dublin come down. Overall, I'd be very happy, 100%. It's been a long time since Waterford's team has beaten Cork in the league. I know we drew with them last year and it's been a long time before that, before we've beaten them. Definitely in Cork as well, but I'm looking for and demanding results and I'm very happy with where we're at now."
"We're looking forward to the last three games now because they're really good games and everyone is in the same boat", he continued. "We have Dublin coming to town in two weeks' time. They'll want to win. We want to win the following week on the road to Galway, which is going to be a massive game, and we have Mayo the following week away as well, so just tough tasks and most definitely with the Galway and the Mayo game away. We're really looking forward to it now because we know we have to beat them and we know we have the players. It's just getting that team performance and more importantly, it's a results-based game and we needed to get the results and we got one today."
