Waterford hurling legend Ken McGrath is set to be appointed as the county’s U20 hurling manager.

The Mount Sion man won 4 Munster Senior Hurling Championships, 3 All-Stars and a National Hurling League title when playing for his county from 1996 to 2011.

Shanahan, the 2007 Hurler of the Year, had served as a selector on the senior squad in the past as part of Derek McGrath’s backroom team, and has recently been involved at underage level in Laois.

Former Déise captain Kevin Moran will also form part of Ken McGrath’s backroom team, the De La Salle man made 143 league and championship appearances for the Deise - a feat only eclipsed by Michael 'Brick' Walsh and Tony Browne.

The 34-year-old made his debut in 2006 under Justin McCarthy, going on to win two Munster medals and two National Hurling Leagues. He played in three All-Ireland finals in Deise blue - in 2008, 2017 and 2020.

Ballygunner’s Andy Moloney completes the line-up. An All-Ireland winner coaching Ballyhale Shamrocks and a Munster winner with the Gunners as a player, Moloney will bring a multitude of experience to the fore.
