Waterford boxer Kelyn Cassidy has seen his Olympic dreams come to an end.
The Ballybeg man was beaten on a 3-2 split decision by Gazimagomed Schami Gafruova Jalidov of Spain in the round of 16.
The Spaniard was unanimously awarded the opening round, before taking the second on a split decision.
Cassidy performed valiantly in the closing round, but it is Jalidov who goes on to tomorrow's medal fight at his expense.
Jalidov was on the front-foot throughout the opening rounds as Cassidy struggled to find his range - taking the opening round 10-9 on all five of the judges scorecards.
The Spaniard, who was born in Dagestan, Russia - landed some impressive body shots on the counter midway through the bout, and was awarded the second round on a 3-2 split - leading on three of the five scorecards going into the final three minutes.
Cassidy was forced into aggression as time was fast running out - needing a massive final round to prevail. He landed a number of punches but his opponent again had all the answers - progressing with Cassidy proving magmanimous in defeat.
