
Kate O’Connor has won a historic silver medal for Ireland at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
O’Connor recorded 5 personal bests from 7 events to make history – having finished 14th in the same event at the Paris Olympics last year.
The Dundalk athlete recorded another personal best during the javelin section of the event.
Her throw of 53.06 boosted her points total to 5743, with an 81 point cushion to third place.
She then ran a personal best time of 2:09.56 – making it a national record tally of 6714 points in doing so.
