The first day of the Champagne Scramble will be held at Faithlegg on Saturday, June 26, with the second day to be played out at Williamstown Golf Club on Saturday, August 7 where already the timesheet for the first event is fully booked out, but there is still some availability for the second day.

After the 2020 first event raised €4500 for MDI ((Muscular Dystrophy Ireland), the event will once again team up with the charity partners this time around along with Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, and Jim Kealy is really delighted with the support that the classic has received from the football public.

“I’m overwhelmed by the support that we’ve once again received this year,” said Jim Kealy last week. “After the success of last year, the popularity that everyone held Johnny in meant that we had to extend the classic over two days and two venues this year.

“With the support of Johnny’s family especially his wife Mary Clare, we are delighted to be holding this event once again, and we’re thankful to all those clubs and individuals that looked up to Johnny so much, have come on board again. Many of the teams involved will be playing in both events, which is just tremendous.

“I’m grateful for the support that we’ve received from Karl Cullen at Faithlegg, and to all at Williamstown Golf Club for supporting us. There is some tee-times available at €75 for a three-man team for the event at Williamstown, and if you want to get involved you can contact me at 085-7767362.”

Commenting on the event, Mary Clare Matthews said, ““As I said after the first event, It’s fabulous to see so many of John’s great friends in the football sphere come together to remember him by playing his second love in life, which was golf.

“I’m very proud that John is remembered in this way and it’s great for the charities involved. I must thank all those that organised the event in the referees and to all the people, who are set to take to the fairways and green in remembering John. We’re so grateful.
