The silver Olympic medalist from Waterford has been at the helm since the organisation's inception in 2015. He previously served as CEO of the Irish Sports Council from 1999.
Treacy was originally to retire at the end of 2020, but agreed to a one-year extension during the Covid-19 pandemic due to the unpredictable nature of sport going forward at the time.

He oversaw the introduction of the Irish anti-doping programme, as well as securing increased financial support for the sector, and the roll out of the local sports partnership initiative.

Treacy is the 1984 Olympic silver medal winner in the marathon and two-time World Cross-Country champion.
He was also heavily involved in the introduction of the Irish Institute of Sport (now Sport Ireland Institute), a high-end facility offering support services to athletes and coaches.
Treacy has also been involved with the development on the Sport Ireland campus.
