Former Ireland captain John O’Shea, who's from Ferrybank, has been appointed assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad.

The 38-year-old is currently on the coaching staff at Reading.

Current Waterford FC coach Jim Crawford has been promoted to manager of the Under-21 side.

It comes after Stephen Kenny has taken over the role of manager of the senior side, with Mick McCarthy agreeing to step aside early yesterday.
