A chat with her sister Emma persuaded Aoife Murray to rejoin the Waterford ladies football panel this season.
“I was watching the first few league games on the streaming and I found it extremely difficult to sit there and watch them. I didn’t think I would find it that hard but I was in an absolute heap. I’m close to a lot of the girls that are still on the panel. A lot of my best friends are still there. I missed being with them and playing with them. Of course, Emma is the captain this year and it’s hard to say no to your own sister when they approach you for a serious conversation to come back in and join the panel. That was the turning point when she sat me down and asked me again. It gave me a bit of food for thought. I’m extremely grateful that Tomás and the lads were willing to bring me back on board. I’ve enjoyed every minute since I’ve gone back in.”
Waterford take on reigning All Ireland champions Kerry in today’s Munster final at the Mallow GAA Complex for a 2.30 throw in. “I’ve been on the panel since 2016 and we’ve got to two Munster finals in 2017 and 2019. When you’re getting to the latter end of your playing days, that medal would mean so much more now than it ever would. You’re reminded that this might be your last chance to go out and represent your county and come out with a bit of silverware. It would be a good reward for the last decade or so that we’ve put in.”
