Waterford trainers Henry de Bromhead and John Flavin will be hoping to add the Irish Grand National crown to their trophy cabinets on Easter Monday, April 1st at Fairyhouse.

The 3-mile 5-furlong chase is the feature of the Fairyhouse Easter Festival, and the Knockeen handler has a sole runner in the form of Senior Chief, while Flavin runs his stable star, Street Value.

The €500,000 showpiece is one of few races to have eluded team de Bromhead down the years, but he is hoping for a big run from the recent Navan winner who is currently available at odds of 11/1.

“He seems in good form and we’re happy with him. We’re looking forward to Monday as he has good form on testing ground. Whether that combined with the trip might be an issue, I don’t know but he seems to stay well.”

Flavin will be hoping Street Value can emulate his December success over course and distance in the Porterstown Handicap Chase.

“He’s in good form and he’ll like the ground and he likes Fairyhouse. He was disappointing in the Grand National Trial and the Thyestes so he’d want to buck up his ideas on that! But he won the Porterstown well at Fairyhouse. He’ll probably be a big price but we’ll have to take our chance and the ground is a great thing in his favour. It’s rare you get a BoyleSports Irish Grand National on heavy ground so it’ll suit him anyway, hopefully.”

The Willie Mullins-trained Nick Rockett is currently the 7/2 favourite for the contest, which goes off at 5.00pm on Monday.
