Waterford boss Liam Cahill wants to reach the knockout stages of the league this spring. A top two finish will see them through to the last four at the end of March.

“I’m hoping to get into the semi finals of the league, that’s the whole idea. Once we get into the semi final, it’s up for grabs then. Being really competitive in the league, finding out more about the players that we have in, established players where they might operate, looking at different options, the way we set up and trying to get as much game time into newer fellas that might offer something for you as well. Just to learn as much as you can through it but to stay as competitive as you can in the lead into the first round of the championship in April. The target would be a league semi final. If we get there, we have a real chance of another competitive game right before the start of the championship in early April.”

Waterford's league opener against Dublin at Parnell Park will be the George Corbett Skoda Big Match on Sunday. Join Kieran O'Connor and Brian Flannery for live coverage at 3.30.
