New Tipperary boss Liam Cahill says that Waterford great Tony Browne is a big addition to their backroom team this year.

"His experience is unquestionable in relation to his playing time and also as a coach. Tony is a very capable fella, a lot of qualifications from a strength and conditioning, coaching and sports science background. I've worked with Tony for the last twelve months in Waterford and I found him really good. I'm delighted that he's with us this year to give us a hand."

Cahill found it strange to come up against his former team in Mallow on Tuesday night. He stepped down as Déise manager last July after three years at the helm. "It is difficult, it really is. That goes without saying. It is what is now, we're back at home in Tipperary. You have to park all that and do the best you can with the group of players I have now. All the players tonight, every single one of them, we've a great relationship. There was a hello and a salute from them all which is nice and that's the way it should be."

Tipp finished bottom in the Munster round robin last year and Cahill wants to put that right. "Just to get back competitive again and make sure that we're in good condition come championship and be one of that three in Munster to kick into the latter stages. That's our initial goal but we've a lot to work on."
