Waterford FC look set to raid their South-East neighbours Wexford FC in their search for a new permanent boss.
Wexford boss Ian Ryan has reportedly emerged as the front-runner to take the reins at the Blues.
Paul O’Hehir of the Irish Mirror reports that the Blues have sought permission from Wexford to speak to Ryan regarding the vacancy.
34-year-old Ryan has had a somewhat successful stint at Ferrycarrig Park to date. When he took over in 2021, Wexford were bottom of the First Division having lost their first eight games. He currently has the South East outfit just three points off the play-off positions.
O’Hehir reports that Waterford FC’s board are believed to be fans of Ryan’s style of football. They are now hoping to sound him out on the position.
Waterford are seeking the latest in a long line of managers after the departures of Alan Reynolds, John Sheridan, Kevin Sheedy, Marc Bircham and Ian Morris. If appointed, Ryan would be the Blues' sixth permanent boss since March 2020.
The Blues are on a fantastic run of form at present, with caretaker bosses Gary Hunt and David Breen steering the club to five successive victories in the wake of Morris’ departure, the most recent of which was a 3-0 success in Longford on Saturday night.
It’s believed that Waterford FC will hold talks with Ian Ryan over the coming days.
