Former Déise boss Derek McGrath says that Jack Fagan has been one of Waterford's standout players this season.

Liam Cahill's side will take on Cork in Saturday's league final at Semple Stadium. McGrath believes that Fagan's move to number five has proved a masterstroke.

"Jack Fagan's relocation to left half back has been a huge success. The left field thinking involved with Liam Cahill, Mikey Bevans and Tony Browne. I pride myself on left field thinking over the years and I never would have considered Jack as a wing back. The manner he's settled there, the flexibility, the adaptability, how good he is in the air. If you watch the Dublin game, he didn't hit much ball but he stayed with Donal Burke all day. For a guy that was so used to being a looser forward to be so rigid in a man marking duty. He's been hugely effective."
