A Tipperary goalkeeper will be between the posts for Ballymacarbry in Saturday's All Ireland final against Kilkerrin-Clonberne. Lauren Fitzpatrick hails from the neighbouring village of Newcastle but she is proud to wear the blue of Ballymac.

“I’m a Tipp woman, there’s no doubt about that! We have the same parish and it just happens that it’s split. Newcastle is in Tipp and Ballymacarbry is in Waterford. Newcastle didn’t have a ladies football team growing up so I opted to play for Ballymacarbry. I love the club. I may be a Tipp woman but I’m also a Ballymac woman! I’m very grateful to be part of the club. I played when I was younger with the under 10s and the under 12s. I took a break then from football in my mid teens and I came back then when I was 16 or 17. I love it here to be fair.”

A large white and blue flag will fly proudly in Newcastle this weekend. “My Mam has got a bit of slagging the last few days! She has a lovely big Waterford flag flying out at the house!”

Lauren’s family will be out in force for the big match at Croke Park. “My Mam and Dad will be there without a doubt. They’ve been great to get every game this year. They made the big trip up to Armagh. A few more family members as well so I’m very grateful.”
