The wait is almost over.
This Sunday, April 17th the Munster Championship bursts back into life with Waterford meeting Tipp, and a repeat of the 2020 All-Ireland Final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh where Cork host Limerick.
The Deise welcome Tipp to Walsh Park for the provincial curtain-raiser. The last time the sides faced off it ended 10 points in Waterford's favour.
On Sunday, Waterford will line out with five players from the 2017 All-Ireland on the bench. Two of them are All-Stars in Austin Gleeson and Pauric Mahony.
The selection can be painted in one of two ways. An embarrassment of riches for Cahill to choose from, or a show of trust in the players who have delivered throughout the league campaign.
While all eyes are on Waterford after that impressive league win, former players and managers alike are quick to remind us that "League is League and Championship is Championship".
This week, Deise selector Stephen Frampton told WLR that the way the League and Championship are viewed in the historically strong counties is very different from here in Waterford.
"I think, historically Tipperary teams wouldn't really have been too worried about a Waterford team in the championship. You know, the league is the league, but the championship; that's the real deal. They will come down, and they'll have a certain amount of confidence, because that's the way they will have looked at it, as in 'It was only the league.'
Frampton is well capable of towing the party line and he can't be blamed. It's never wise to go into a game as favorites - no matter what trophy you've won in recent weeks.
Former Deise All-Star Eoin Murphy remarks that a league win won't go to the heads of the Waterford team. He told WLR Sport that Conor Prunty was all too clear in his Semple Stadium speech for people to be patient and wait for more from the Deise.
"I believe that no one will get carried away. They know that there are bigger tests to come. I've got no inside information, but I get the sense that this group is well-grounded. I think Liam Cahill, Mikey Bevans, and co are well-grounded themselves and they're not going to give any opposition any ammunition that can be used against them."
All that being said, there remains the threat of a perceived "weak" Tipp team. Much like how Frampton, Cahill et al would like to be the underdogs, Colm Bonnar is enjoying the privilege of being counted out before a ball is pucked. Murphy says that it's exactly what Tipp would have wanted in the build-up.
"It's kind of a free shot for Tipperary tomorrow, to be honest. They're coming down to Waterford and they're being totally written off. I did the commentary for the Tipp game six weeks ago in the league and 10 minutes into the second half it was nearly all square and suddenly Waterford took off outscoring Tipp 10 points to 1 coming down the stretch and just blew them away."
We won't have long to find out whether it's better to be the favorites who are defending an unbeaten streak in their home ground, or whether coming to town quietly with cap in hand is the better approach.
