Dessie Hutchinson and Michael Kiely are the joint winners of the WLR Granville Hotel GAA Award for February.
Dessie was man of the match in the All Ireland club final against Shamrocks Ballyhale as Ballygunner lifted the Tommy Moore Cup for the first time. He netted a crucial second half goal and finished the afternoon with 1-3. This is his fourth monthly award.
Michael helped UL to Fitzgibbon Cup glory with late, late goals against IT Carlow and NUIG. The Abbeyside attacker struck a 45 metre free to the net in extra time of the semi final and two days later, he was the match-winner again with an injury time green flag in the decider against NUI Galway. This is his second monthly award.
The pair are no strangers to one another, sharing the full-forward line in Deise blue regularly, with both players starring in Waterford's run to the Allianz National Hurling League Final.
Kiely was also named on the Fitzgibbon Cup team of the year for his exploits with the Limerick college. While this is an individual award, he says he must thank his teammates.
"It's an individual award but it goes out to the team. From the start to the finish, it was all about the team - I'm just the guy who was lucky enough to score the fluky goals in the end! Without the boys getting all the scores along the way, it wouldn't be me here accepting this award."
Dessie Hutchinson has been a serial winner of the Granville Award since his return from England - and paid tribute to his family for their unwavering support.
"They're the ones who sacrifice a lot for you from when you were a child to hopefully have days like when we won the All-Ireland. I can't describe what it's like when you see those people and you can embrace them after the final whistle because it's down to them as well."
