After three rounds in Spain, Gary Hurley is well-placed to continue his march toward a DP World Tour card for 2023.

The West Waterford man is halfway through his six rounds of qualifying golf for a place on the European Tour next season where he sits in a share of 6th.

He started his weekend last Friday on the tougher Hills Course at Tarragona carding a -2 70 to open his ledger.

Moving to the Lakes course on Saturday the scoring proved easier with Hurley picking up a -6 65.

The 29-year-old who is now 554th in the world rankings has been playing quality golf in a well-stocked field. His return to the Hills Course yesterday provided more of the same when he went -2 again to pick up another round of 70 leaving him just five shots off the pace.

The carrot on offer in Spain is a much-coveted place on the DP World Tour next year but of the 155 competitors only 25 will pick up the ticket to higher calibre golf next season.

There are still 54 holes of golf to play and that's a lifetime for implosions and missteps to play out but after the first 54 Hurley has put himself in the best possible spot to pick up an improvement on his already-earned Challenge Tour Card.

The Aglish man is back in action on Monday morning at 9.37 am Irish time.
