Gary Hurley battled back on the back nine of his opening round to post a level par 72 at the final stage of the DP World Tour Q School in Spain.
Hurley dropped three shots in his opening six holes but got one back with a birdie on seven.
He dropped another shot on the tenth before rallying with birdies at 12, 13 and 15 to keep himself in touch and he is now inside the top 100 ahead of tomorrow's second round on the Lakes Course at Infinitum Golf resort in Tarragona.
Hurley is back on the course at 9.22am tomorrow.
Ballymena's Dermot McElroy is four under after a 68 while Ireland's only other competitor is the Royal Dublin amateur Max Kennedy who is one under par.
Felix Mory of France leads on ten under par.
